No other school in Michigan comes close to the knowledge and experience of GLK’s professional instructors. Over the last 7 years GLK has developed ultimate teaching programs to assure you will become a safe, self sufficient and confident kiteboarder. We proudly achieve this through our knowledge, experience and dedication to the sport. GLK now has two full service shops to better serve you. Our St. Clair Shores location, just miles from Lake St. Clair, and our newest location in Tawas, which is regarded as the best spot in Michigan to ride. Both full service shops have all the gear you need to get you on the water with brands like Best, Slingshot, Wainman Hawaii and all the accessories from Dakine, Neil Pryde, Hyperflex and NSI We also offer a full service kite repair center in our St. Clair Shores location. Great Lakes Kiteboarding School is one of the longest running schools in Michigan and is regarded as one of the best Kiteboarding schools in the US. Our kite camps are now in their 7th season. We have designed the ultimate teaching program to make you a safe, confident and self sufficient kiteboarder. GLK has 13 years combined teaching with just two of our professional instructors, no other kiteboarding school in Michigan can come close to the experience of GLK. We also use the latest 2009 gear from Best Kiteboarding and Wainman Hawaii.
At GLK we believe in a more personalized service. Our camps limit up to 8 students with 4 professional instructors. It’s as close as you can get to a one on one lesson. We teach you responsible kiting because we regard the highest standard for safety in this sport. Respecting the kite and what it is capable of is far more important.

Tawas Bay Kiteboarding:
Referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest,” Tawas Bay has long been considered one of the finest sailing areas in the country due to the steady winds and protected waters. Consistent winds, clear, warm water, and abundant sandy beaches make Tawas Point a kiteboarding nirvana, with conditions ranging from shallows for lessons, speed slicks, downwinders, and waves. Our exclusive shallow water lesson site is perfect for learning. Experience the pristine natural beauty of Tawas Point and maximize your learning and freeriding with our local expertise.
Tawas Point is located off US-23, 2.5 miles southeast of East Tawas on Tawas Beach Road. It is just over an hour drive from the Tri-Cities and only three hours from the Detroit area. Amazing versatility and variety abound at Tawas Point which will please any kiteboarding riding style: Free-Ride; Wake; Surf; and Snow.

Activities:
In case of no wind GLK has Stand Up Paddle boards for rental. Tawas also offers boat rentals. There is a ton of hiking trails and rivers to kayak and canoe from.
