Moorea, along with Tahiti, make up the two Windward Islands.

Moorea (Yellow lizard in Tahitian) is located at 17 KM from Tahiti and belongs to Archipelago of Société Islands. Moorea, along with Tahiti, make up the two Windward Islands.

Getting There:

The International Airport, Tahiti FAA, is located in Tahiti and all major international airlines land in Tahiti. You can fly from Europe, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and from the United States (Los Angeles International Airport & JFK in New York). Only a valid Passport is required to enter French Polynesia.There are many ways to get to Moorea. Planes arrive every hour from Air Tahiti (10 minute flight) or you may take the ferry, which arrives every two hours from Papeete, from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM.Lakana Fly Kiteboarding School is located 25 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Vaiere (Ferry Wharf). Lakana Fly is located at Papetoai, just beside Tipaniers Hotel on the famous “beach club” beach.


Lakana Fly was created in 2004 and was the first kiteboarding school on the island.It is owned by David Bourroux (Ex Pro Windsurfer) and is an IKO & EFK approved and certified center, and a flagship Best Official School.

With very personal assistance (three people maximum at one time), beginners to advanced kiters are welcome for riding on the wonderful lagoon with the turtles and stingrays, riding the ocean waves or doing a downwind trip.The school is open all year around, and it is very well equipped with Best Kites.

The rate for two hours is $110 US, with everything included (reef shoes, kites, boards, harnesses, etc.).The session always starts by driving through the lagoon, with the Lakana Fly Boat, in order to find the appropriate spot. Unforgettable…Everyone is welcome and we accept kids from nine years old.


Weather and Winds:

The climate is warm and sunny and you will find trade winds in Moorea all year round. In the winter, from May to September, the main wind is the Maramu, blowing from the south and offering some incredible downwind riding. The rest of the year the trade winds come from East. Water temperature is always between 23 to 26 Degrees Celsius.

Activities:

When there is no wind, this is the best time for surfing. But there are many activities available on Moorea, especially water sports like diving, snorkeling, fishing, wake boarding, watching whales and dolphins and much more…and you can also visit some world-class fishing spots in Tahiti.

Money:

The official currency is the Polynesian Francs, but US Dollar and €uros are more than welcome. The rate between Polynesian Francs (Xpf) and €uro is a flat rate: 119,33 XPF for 1 €uro and around 90 XPF for one US Dollar.

Accomodations:

You will find many different kinds of accommodations to fit all budgets, from five star hotels to guest houses. Most accommodations are located on the beach or on the Lagoon! Internet connections are good and fast and Wifi is available. Regarding food, many restaurants offer a wide range of various types, including Chinese, French, Tahitian, etc.
